Absolutely. As a person of color in the entertainment industry, there is definitely pressure to conform to certain expectations or stereotypes. I try to use my platform to break down those barriers and to show that there is more than one way to be successful and to tell stories.
Can you tell us about your thoughts on DOs in your new special?
Yes, in my new special “The King’s Jeste,” I made a joke about the difference between MDs and DOs. Some DOs got upset about it, but I want to make it clear that I have a lot of respect for them and think that they are great doctors. I even tell them that I’m proud of them and I don’t care about their MCAT scores.
