Sure. I was born and raised in Davis, California, and my parents are originally from India. I studied political science and pre-law at the University of California, Davis before switching to film. I then went on to attend the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where I studied film and television.

How did you become a successful comedian and entertainer?

I started doing stand-up comedy while I was in college and after I graduated, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue it as a career. I performed at various comedy clubs and eventually landed a job as a correspondent on The Daily Show. From there, I continued to work on my craft and created my own shows and specials.

What are some highlights of your career so far?

Definitely working on The Daily Show and having my own Netflix specials have been major highlights for me. I also recently filmed a role for the Batman Unburied series and have a part in the second season of The Morning Show.

I’m a big fan of basketball and enjoy playing in my free time. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends, traveling, and trying out new food spots.

Have you felt pressure to conform to societal expectations in your career or personal life?

Absolutely. As a person of color in the entertainment industry, there is definitely pressure to conform to certain expectations or stereotypes. I try to use my platform to break down those barriers and to show that there is more than one way to be successful and to tell stories.

Can you tell us about your thoughts on DOs in your new special?

Yes, in my new special “The King’s Jeste,” I made a joke about the difference between MDs and DOs.
